About Us

Pull off US Route 1 in Cape Neddick and you'll find a lodge that surprises people. Visitors from Houston, travelers on their way to Ogunquit, road-trippers heading back from family visits up the coast, they stop in, and they leave with a coin in their pocket and a story to tell. That kind of spontaneous welcome is not an accident. It is what Lodge 2788 has built its reputation on, one handshake at a time.

The lodge earns a 4.7-star rating because the experience is real. A friendly bartender who knows the upcoming events calendar. Fellow Elks who exchange lodge coins and swap tales from chapters across the country. It is a small lodge by some measures, but small here means everyone in the room actually notices when you walk through the door.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has been serving American communities for over 150 years, and Lodge 2788 carries that mission forward on the southern Maine coast. Charitable giving, veteran support, youth programs, and community events like the lobster roast keep this lodge woven into the fabric of York County life.

What We Offer

Lodge 2788 offers members and visiting Elks a full bar and a relaxed social atmosphere where conversation flows as easily as a cold drink after a long drive up the coast. The lobster roast is a signature event that draws locals and out-of-towners alike, a quintessentially Maine gathering that pairs perfectly with the lodge's reputation for warmth.

Beyond the social hall, the lodge actively supports charitable programs that benefit York County families, veterans, and young people throughout the region. Members gain access to the broader national Elks network, which means a warm reception at over 2,000 lodges across the country, handy when you are the one rolling into an unfamiliar town.

Visiting Elks are encouraged to bring their membership card and lodge coin. Whether you are a longtime member renewing your connection or a prospective member curious about joining, Lodge 2788 keeps its door open to those who share a commitment to community, charity, and good company.

"We were heading home from our son's house and stopped in to meet our fellow Elks. They were very welcoming and gave my wife and I coins - Lodge 2788. We were a bit ill prepared but did have our Lodge 14, Tri-City bottle koozies to give. We spent about an hour visiting before hitting the road again. If you are an Elk and traveling down Route 1 through York, Maine, stop by and say hello!"

"Nice small lodge with a very friendly bartender who invited us to the lodge's upcoming lobster roast. The same can not be said for the rest of the members who were in attendance when we visited. When we visit an Elks lodge members are generally friendly and want to know where you are from and what you are doing in their area. Other than the bartender, and one member who challenged me as to whether I was a member of the Elks, no one spoke to us. We both had a drink, and left. Clearly visitors are of no importance to this lodge, or at least to those members who were present when we visited."

"Darn! What a surprise to see the Lodge. My wife and I are from Houston. We were on our way to Ogunquit, ME for lunch and then Cohasset, MA for supper. We were moving pretty quick. We sure did talk about how much we would have enjoyed stopping there to see our brothers and sisters."

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
